I have noticed that the teen youth are very much involved with the fads and trends that are hot in today's society. I designed a role playing game that involved them starting off as some of the favorite music artist, while they are striving to become selected bible characters. As they move up in levels, they lose their artists thoughts and personalities and become close to the word. I used two youth from my church as an experiment and plan of have the entire class participate in the future.

This is a picture that I altered using iphoto of me. How serious do you make things out to be? Some times we do make more out of a negative situation than need be. Negative things always happen, it is our choice of how we will react to them that sets us apart from everyone else. I have tried to eliminate the Shoulda… Coulda…Woulda’s from and replaced them with I Can… Will… and Did’s. I don’t know if I do things any better now, but I don’t feel as stressed anow as I did.

VII. Giving Way to Passion: As a musician I completely agree that in order to truly “feel the music” you must let yourself go, and allow the music to engulf you, surround you and carry you to another place.

VIII. There is a big problem with media being used and not being created. But the if you visit http://creativecommons.org/ you can easily find, donate, and license either original or registered media. They have a downloadable widget, when you register with them, that allows you to credit material. There are 4 symbols that are used individually and together to specific how a creation can be used.
This is not a tedious process so I implore that all of you young artist collaborate with http://creativecommons.org/ to credit fellow artist just as you would want future artist and creators to do for your original works.

Wk 4 "Some things in life are better done in person"

I am a person that has always been complemented on my smile! In our required reading, The Art of Possibility", chapter 9 shares a quote that is priceless in truly understanding life(Zander & Zander, 2000 pg. 123-125). A story about a man telling his son that "Some things in life are better done in person" explaining the reasoning for a face-to-face meeting as opposed to a phone call. Later in the chapter the son explained himself coming across an opportunity to make his father's quote manifest. He was successful even though at the onset of the situation his preferred outcome wasn't clear. The end result caused a once in a lifetime performance. I mentioned my smile, to start, because many times when I meet someone or see them again they often mention remembering the warmth of my smile. I believe that my smile is a big part of the enrollment I could use as a spark of possibility. Enrollment is the foundation of a bigger picture, meaning the spark that the final product is produced from(Zander & Zander, 2000 pg. 139). I want to lead my acquired knowledge with a smile during those times the are just better done in person.

Zander, R. type='text'>Comment WK3.1

Week 1 Random thoughts - Firsts
by Sam Coffman
Today, my wife Amy and I had the pleasure of watching our twin boys, Ryan and Caleb, experience the joy that is ice cream! Specifically, they indulged in their first ice cream cones! I was amazed at how well they worked the cones. I’m pretty sure that they have never seen us eat an ice cream cone before, but they had no trouble knowing what to do with it and even how to hold it. I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise, seeing how both their Mommy and Daddy love their desserts!

Watching these little guys and trying to document all of their big “first” moments, I sometimes wonder at what age do people stop celebrating these “historic” moments? If one could jump ahead in time and then look back at their own lives, what “firsts” that we adults experience but don’t celebrate would stand out? For example, because society has become so obsessed with digital technology, it is hard for younger people to even imagine a world without it. I still remember some of my technological firsts: game system (original Nintendo, received as a Christmas present), home PC, laptop, cell phone, Mac. Although each one of these toys has brought me as much pleasure and contentment as ice cream has, they never have gotten the fanfare that, seeing their impact in the long run, maybe they deserved.

Kevin Hayes
I must say that moments like these are definitely "priceless"! I remember Polaroid pictures, me being 32, having a great influence on my life. Do you recall Halloween pictures? Those seem to have never lost their luster, as well. Good times!
Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 10:32 PM

Comment WK3

Week 3 iTunes and Music Publishers Not Playing Nice

Cnet has an interesting article that I believe should be looked at closely. It seems that the music publishers are looking to get paid beyond music downloads. They want to get compensated for the 30 second free sample and knowing ASCAP and BMI they also want compensation for every time the artist performance regardless of the media type . I think thats fair since all other medias have to play by this rule also. The main question here is that really a performance?

If they win this will eventually translate to price hikes and angry consumers. I think it is just a matter of time before Apple gets force to do a subscription service like Napster, Real Media, and Zune. I'll say it again "there is no room in this industry for lonely rebels". Apple will eventually have to play by the rules, ultimately leveling the playing field for everyone else. Don't get me wrong I love my iTunes, but if the CD down the store cost the same as my download I might do it just for the free DVD offer that comes with it.

Posted by Frank Long at 3:35 PM

            1 comments:

He Kept me. said...

Frank, I agree, though we all enjoy the ability to preview the snippets, it should be regulated. Zander, 2000 pg. 9-10). I am sharing this video to show see the viewers reactions to this movement. The bold statements that they portray on the front of their shirts are a testimony and controversial by today's standards. I love the Lord and appreciate the Passion 4 Christ Movement(P4CM), because they are not ashamed of their past or the gospel.

Zander, R. Everything was great in terms of the presentation itself, but the technology was, however, an issue. I needed to hook my laptop up to a projector that used serial ports so I decided to go and purchase the attachment for it. When I got to the store and explained what I needed the man gave me the wrong attachment and insisted that it was the right one. So after I paid for it, I went to church to hook everything up the attachment didn't work and it was too late to take it back and to make matters worst the projector screen was not present. To make a log story short, I wound up burning my presentation to a disk and playing it on a windows computer and showing it on a yellow wall that hindered the slides.

Posted by mspencer at 7:48 PM

1 comments:
He Kept me. said...
This is reminds of my incident that happened at church, as well. Research was restricted to the books you could find in the library or local bookstore. The educational experience was somewhat isolated.
With the internet and new media, education has beco
me a community experience. A classroom in the USA can connect and communicate with a classroom in Spain. It opens the door for students to gain a better cultural understanding of our world. Research has become broader, faster and multi-media enriched. The internet has created a global community - the world at your finger tips. It is easier to seek out expert opinions, guidance and facts. New Media creates ways to educate people with various learning styles.

A student now has access to all the knowledge in the world.

Kevin Hayes said...
It is truly amazing how far technology has come. I am 32 yrs old and I keep telling myself that I am not old, but to look back on how I was taught, growing up, in comparison to what our youth are learning today... I can't prove that I'm not. Many new media outlets have allowed some many new ways to reach these learners. I am glad that I am a part of this revolution, even if I'm not a digital native.
September 13, 2009 6:03 PM

Wk2 Comments

What Makes Reality Shows News Worthy?

By Shelly Haskell

With the recent “news” of Ellen DeGeneres as American Idol’s new judge, I have to share my thoughts on reality TV making the headlines. I realize that entertainment is news or at least noteworthy on entertainment news shows but is it really top news for CNN, News Week, or Local and National news programs?
When the eliminated and cast-offs of Idol or Survivor are interviewed on the next morning news shows it makes me “roll my eyes”and say REALLY? I guess there are so many outlets for the entertainment industry to promote (pimp!) there products that the guise of these 15-second-famers as newsworthy is ridiculous to me. I see right through these segments for what they are- commercials to promote shows.

But wait, I guess I could be in a minority here. I may be one of the lonely few who do not know how important these people really are. Well I guess its a case of Mob Rules and everyone’s buying.

Kevin Hayes
It is controversial, to say the least, because I have heard a lot of comments that have questioned Ellen's credibility in being a judge. All of the previous ones have been talented in there own right. All Ellen brings to the table is a strong following. Since seeing him and his animated broadcasts, I've noticed that it is not just our youth who are infatuated by watching things "live" it is a common theme from all ages around the world. I got these shots while watching Chad(wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals) broadcast live during preseason training camp. Well, according to the book Convergence Culture by Henry Jenkins , convergence doesn't happen in the media, it happens in the brains of individual consumers and through their social interactions (Jenkins 2006). I must say that if this is the definition then my answer to the question is yes, I do believe it has already taken place because events such as being able to watch television on the cell phone or being albe to communicate without talking using email or text messages.

Kevin Hayes said...
I agree, and want to add that at the rate we are going there won't be any need for a lot of promotional, careers. 90 to 100% of ones promotion can be done on your own, now a days. That makes for convenience in being about to create and ship a final product straight from home. In turn, all your research and media can come back right to your hand held mobile device. Is it the reason we should be changing our delivery methods?
Kevin Hayes
Ken, this is so powerful because it is exposing the harsh reality of what goes on in on campus learning in most situations. As I continue to read, Convergence Culture by Henry Jenkins and I can’t help to think that the word, “convergence” was overly overrated ( I might to use the phrase). According to Henry Jenkins’ book, In the 1990’s, the word “convergence” means the old media (radio, etc.) would be absorbed completely destroyed replaced by new technologies. Henry Jenkins doesn’t describe convergence this way but he briefly goes over the past assumptions. It’s like the word “convergence” is a war machine conquering network after network and industry after industry to be become ruler of the world. I’m all for a good Terminator movie or the Matrix trilogy but give me a BREAK! The word “convergence” was used like W. Bush used “War on Terror” (like the “War on Terror” was a single country).
In the book, George Gilder (A “so-called” digital revolutionary) claims, “The computer industry is converging with the television in industry in the same sense that the automobile converged with the horse.” I can understand the relation, I’m not clueless there some things today technology have provided that seem impossible or crazy in the past like TIVO. Think about it! Who would have thought, we can record LIVE television then rewind it back – all in real time! I just have an opinion that everything mankind builds is a tool and the creation is not greater than its Creator. In the past, the word “convergence” sounded more like “FearFactor” than a new tool to communicate with each other or to express each other thoughts. We have all these new technologies but fundamentally all human beings do the same things. We all have the ability to read, smell, listen, and speak (whatever language). From my view, the tools may change but people have not. Besides, what are we doing with our new toys? World hunger still exists. Global poverty is not gone. What about converging on that!

My Response Kevin Hayes
I love the emotion with which you tackle this “convergence” issue. It is the fact that across the board all cultures can meet, in one form or another, to share in these medias. Think about how accessible this blog we are conversing on now is, worldwide. Just the simple URL will allow an astronaut to visit it while orbiting the earth in outer space. Convergence is more about how we are able to reach the masses. We should definitely be using these tools to eradicate those important issues you mentioned and many more. If we don’t, to me, its pointless!

Public Service Announcement-CHANGE IS GOOD...

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v17.nonxt4.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Db9b8d7d2f8333b28%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1332601261%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D20E452DC5FB8296DEB4EE6E67120AFA19BD49522.1E5B198E8B0B4DD4FCEA0B4113A0AA39A4324957%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Db9b8d7d2f8333b28%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DNhYRwip4Tnvs3zIerYO_SWA7UR8&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />
If what you learn doesn't change you, then why are you learning what you're learning? The image of Bin Laden and our popular Sesame Street friend Bert cause such a powerful impact that the originator had to back out, because of the unforeseen momentum(Jenkins, 2006)! I also learned a what a convergent culture means. I knew converge as a central meeting point but that is far from what it is, in its entity. A convergent culture means that there are many ways to achieve the same goal and not just one! Meaning when we'd like to share an original work we can use many different avenues to get it to the masses.

Jenkins, H. (2006).
